Diptych finished painting

What will be will be

Here are a few photos of the finished diptych titled What will be will be it was so much fun painting on this larger scale (1.5 x 1.5 m).  I have learnt more about building up my layers of under painting to create more depth and areas of interest.  It always fascinates me how the paint reacts and drys on the surface of the canvas surprising me when I next come into the studio to paint.  This painting is now at Art Bureau, Christchurch.

Diptych painting in progress

It has been so much fun working on this larger size diptych each panel is 1500 x 750 cm creating a 1500 squared work.  I have enjoyed having more freedom in my brush strokes especially in the first layers.  Splashing paint, pooling paint and letting it run over the canvas has created some interesting effects.Layer 1

It has taken many layers to start to build up the painting, blocking in some colour and eliminating areas from the first stage has been important as it leaves the most interesting areas showing through.

Layer 2

Here I have used the cellular motif in different colours to interlace around the large petri dish shapes.  The painting is still unfinished and needs more definition between foreground and background.  I will update once the work is completed this work is currently untitled.
